Two employees of Lexus Stoke, Jean-Luc Cartwright and Rod Barcroft, are doing their bit for charity – by trying to raise an enormous £1,000 in just a matter of weeks! They will be riding their motorbikes over 4 countries in 4 days, including the famous Stelvio Pass! Such a large journey in such a short time would be quite a feat in itself, but add to this that they’ll be doing it on their sports motorbikes and you can begin to imagine the tough challenge ahead for them!

The endurance challenge is being held from June 22nd – June 25th 2013, so there isn’t long to raise the money. Questioned about the large target of £1,000, Jay answered, “To be honest anything we can raise for the charity would be amazing. Even if it was just half that it would still make a significant difference; but I like big targets so that’s why I’m aiming for £1.000!” Anything that can be donated, whether £1, £5, £10 or more would be deeply appreciated as it all adds up to transform the lives and well-being of people facing real hardship.
Here’s how your money could help:
£50
would buy food for a couple in severe hardship for a week.
£100
would pay for an emergency call service for a vulnerable older person living alone
£200
would pay immediate bills for someone unable to work following a serious illness
£600
would pay for a young carer to have a specialist break for two weeks
£1000
would provide 2 grants towards wheelchairs for disabled adults or children
The Journey:
Friday Evening 21 June 2013: Dover – Béthune
Distance: Approx. 50 miles
Saturday 22 June 2013: Béthune – Mulhouse
Distance: Approx. 360 miles (410 miles including Friday’s distance)
Sunday 23 June 2013: Mulhouse – Stelvio
Distance: Approx. 245 miles
Monday 24 June 2013: Stelvio – Saint-Dié-des-Vosges
Distance: Approx. 325 miles
Tuesday 25 June 2013: Saint-Dié-des-Vosges – Dover

The charity they’re raising money for is called BEN, which cares for all automotive industry people, past and present, as-well as their partners and dependants in times of hardship or distress. This includes helping with the cost of specialist disabled equipment, giving emotional support through an illness or funding a much-needed respite break.
Sometimes you just don’t know what life will throw at you – this is why BEN was founded, to help in any way that they can. It’s not always the person who works in the automotive industry who may be affected, but sometimes it could be their partner or children – in any case and with any hardship, BEN will offer help.
As with any charity funding is crucial and it costs approximately £11 million each year for BEN to continue its vital work. Join us on our journey to raise as much as possible for BEN! Anything you can offer will help and it could make a tremendous difference to the lives of many.
